I was diagnosed with Thyroid Eye Disease in August of 2020. I'd actually never even heard of the disease before. It took three doctors to finally diagnose me with it and then find a doctor that actually specialized in it. After trying steroids and not having any results in the reduction of my symptoms, my doctor and I decided that TEPEZZA was the best option for me. At the time, my husband and I really wanted to start a family and we were blessed to be able to get pregnant.
That meant that we had to put treatment on hold for a year. During my pregnancy, my eyes seemed to get better in the first and second trimesters, which was really promising. Then they gradually started getting worse in the third trimester. Then after I gave birth, my double vision has been constant. It's been really miserable. It makes daily tasks really difficult like driving, reading, or even playing with my baby.
Needless to say, after a year and a half of having this disease, I am so ready to start taking TEPEZZA. I've seen great results from the studies. I'm hopeful that it will reduce my bulging eyes. I can start looking like my normal self as well as correcting my double vision so I can get back to living my old life. I actually start my first infusion tomorrow and so I'm feeling super excited to get started on TEPEZZA and to share my journey with you all.

I just had my second infusion and I'm so excited to say that I'm actually already seeing and feeling improvements. While there isn't a huge physical change yet, in the side-by-side pictures, I can already see some of the swellings has gone down. As well as my right eye is pulling back upwards towards the center and doesn't seem to look as bad as it has been. My double vision is actually getting better as well. As you can see, I'm actually able to wear my contacts again for the first time in over three months, which is amazing. I wasn't able to wear it because my eyes were so dry, and also because of the double vision.
The infusion felt the same as last time and was super easy. This time it was still an hour and a half. I made sure to stay hydrated before the infusion, and then during to continue to stay hydrated, I had a bottle of water and also a Gatorade this time. It was really comfortable, I just sat and watched a movie and then was free to go. I did have the same side effects this go around. I was really tired that night and then had a few minor leg cramps. But other than that, it was really great and I'm excited to continue to see the results and will keep you all updated.

All right. First infusion down, I had my first infusion three days ago and it went smoothly. I had my own room with a recliner and a TV but I actually ended up sleeping the whole time. When I got there, it only took about 20 minutes before the medicine was going. After an hour and a half, they removed the IV but had me wait an additional 30 minutes to make sure I didn't have any side effects while sitting there. I didn't, so after the 30 minutes I was able to leave and I had someone pick me up, because they do recommend having someone drive you for the first two infusions.
I made sure and stay hydrated. I had heard that that really helps with the side effects. I didn't have any major side effects. Fatigue was one of them. I was exhausted that night and the next day, by the second day after I felt completely back to normal. I did feel a little nauseated the day after for a very short period of time and had cramps in my legs overnight. Other than that, there were no side effects. I was very lucky with that. I'm super excited to start feeling and seeing the results. I will keep you guys posted after my next infusion.

Hello, I just had my third infusion and feeling really good now. I've already seen a huge difference. I have been feeling a lot safer driving now that my double vision is better and even watching TV, I'm not having to tilt my head back to watch the TV. I can see it looking straight ahead, which is awesome.
I still have my dry eyes, but overall, my symptoms are really improving. I'm even starting to notice less bulging in my eyes as well. The third infusion went really well. It was only an hour long this time, so it felt like I was in and out super quick. I didn't have to wait for 30 minutes afterwards, either. I had the same side effects, being tired and a few leg cramps.
I also had a few new side effects this go-round. I had an upset stomach and nausea for a couple of days along with the fatigue and leg cramps, but I'm feeling back to normal now. I'm excited to have the fourth infusion in a couple of weeks. I will let you guys know how it goes.

“I’m feeling really good now. I’m already seeing a huge difference. I’ve been feeling much safer driving now that my double vision is better.”
Tell your doctor or nurse right away if you have any of these symptoms during or after your treatment with TEPEZZA: high blood pressure, fast heartbeat, redness of the face/feeling hot, difficulty breathing, headache, and muscle pain.
“We’re already halfway there. I have a reduction of about 4 mm in my left eye and 2 mm in my right eye. Without TEPEZZA, I don’t think that I would have been able to go back to work. When working on a computer all day, the double vision would have made it impossible. In my lab work, I did have elevated glucose levels. So, I’ve been working with my doctor to make some dietary changes.” See most common side effects and questions to ask your doctor.
Hello. I just completed my fourth infusion last week and I can't believe how fast it's going. We're already halfway there, which is amazing. I've definitely seen an improvement in my symptoms, and when I went to the doctor this last week, I had a reduction of about four millimeters in my left eye for bulging and two millimeters in right eye, which is just amazing with only having half of the treatments. My double vision has really improved as well, which is awesome. I feel like I can get back to doing things I love. I feel safe driving again, which is great.
I am hoping to see more improvement in my eyelid retraction and bringing my eyelids down, but we’ll see over the next four treatments what that will look like. I did start work after maternity leave this past week, and, honestly, without TEPEZZA, I don't think that I would've been able to go back to work when I'm working on a computer all day. While my eyes are still very dry after staring at a computer all day, the double vision would've made it impossible.
The fourth infusion was just as the others. Since I had been having some stomach issues with the last few, I did take some Imodium beforehand, and that really seemed to help this go around. I also noticed in my lab work that I did have elevated glucose levels, so I've been working with my doctor to make some dietary changes in the meantime.
Overall, I would definitely take those side effects for the changes that TEPEZZA has already made in my visible appearance and how I'm feeling, so I’m really glad to see that improvement there.

Hi. I just had my fifth infusion last week, and it went really well. I've definitely noticed less eye-bulging, and my double vision has gotten noticeably better. I'm still hoping that my eyelids will come down a little bit and not look as open as they are right now.
Other than that I'm really happy with the progress. It's really helped my outlook on life as well. I'm being able to do a lot more than I used to do and feeling like I'm getting back to normal and looking like my old self, which is awesome. I've had the same side effects for each round for the most part. This go-round I also had elevated blood pressure. Then I haven't had my period in two months either. I do feel like the side effects have gotten a little worse in severity as it goes on. Just upset stomach-wise and the cramps, but they're still very much manageable.
Then lastly, I wanted to touch on the kits that Horizon and TEPEZZA has sent to us. The first one was the starter kit that came with a cute little bag. Then the second one was a readiness kit that came with a face mask. I've actually used that when I want to sleep during the infusions which is great. Last week I got a kit that came in the mail. It was talking about how to stay motivated and staying the course with the TEPEZZA infusions, and that came with a hot and cold compress and a massage roller ball which has been great for the leg cramps. Overall, I think the kits have been super helpful and really thoughtful. That's all for now. I'm excited to continue on with my treatments and will update you guys after the sixth one.

“My eye bulging has gone down significantly. The double vision is almost completely gone. I’m back in my book club, reading all the time. And that’s been such a blessing, to get to enjoy the things I used to. My relationship with my PAL has been great. She has been super helpful with random questions that I have, and really helped me in the beginning to get my insurance pushed through. She always checks in with me after each infusion.” See how a PAL can help you through your treatment process.
All right. So my sixth infusion is complete and I'm feeling great and really seeing wonderful results. I definitely feel like my eye bulging has gone down significantly. And after this infusion, I do feel like my eyelids have come down some, too. And I don't have that much of a surprised look at anymore. The infusion this go round, I really didn't have many side effects, which is awesome.
I was definitely tired again that day and took a nap and felt much better and then had some leg cramps that evening. But no upset stomach this week, which was really nice. But even if I still had the upset stomach, I mean, it's so worth it with the results I'm seeing. I definitely would continue doing it even with those results.
With the improvement in my double vision, I feel 100% comfortable driving again. That was always really scary, especially if I was driving my daughter, but now the double vision is almost completely gone. And really, I only get it if I try and look up super far and then the double vision will come back a little bit. I also used to read all the time and that got put on hold with the double vision when that got really bad but I'm now back in my book club and reading all the time, and that's been such a blessing to be able to get to enjoy the things that I used to.
I've also been wearing more eye makeup, which I know that sounds funny, but I couldn't see straight to put on my eye makeup when my double vision was really bad, and so I couldn't see if my eyeliner and eye shadow was even. So I just throw on a little bit of mascara and call it good. And so it's been really nice to be able to put on more makeup. Just if I want to have a little bit more on. It's been really nice to be able to see enough to be able to do that.
My relationship with my pal has been great. She's been super helpful, even with just random questions that I have. She always checks in with me after each infusion and really helped me when in the beginning to get my insurance pushed through. That was super helpful because insurance can really be difficult to deal with, but she made that process super easy.
So that's all for this week. Only two more infusions to go. I'm super excited and I will keep you guys up to date on my progress.

Hello. I just finished my seventh infusion, and I can hardly believe that I've already had seven of them and just have one more to go so quickly. But I'm really excited with the results I've seen. I'm definitely still seeing a reduction of eye bulging, and I feel like I have more eye movement, peripheral and up and down. My eyelid retraction and got a little better, but I still haven't seen a huge difference there.
I haven't had any new side effects from this infusion. I had the usual leg cramps, upset stomach and just being tired. I usually just try and drink a bunch of water before, have a snack while I'm getting the infusion, and then maybe take some Imodium or other medicine for the upset stomach. I usually do my infusions on Friday afternoons, which has been really great for me. Work's been super accommodating and we usually aren’t very busy on Fridays, so that's a great time for me to do it. I’m also usually really tired so it's nice to do on Fridays and have the weekend to recover, and sometimes I take my laptop with me. I'm lucky to be able to work remotely some days, so I can work while I’m getting my infusion as well.
I've been getting a lot of compliments actually on how much better my eyes look from friends and family, which has been great to hear. Before I started TEPEZZA, I had a couple of people say, “Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to startle you.” And it's because of that surprised look that people with Thyroid Eye Disease have. And even though my eyes are still open a little bit, since starting TEPEZZA, the bulging has gone down, and so I haven't had any of those comments in a while, which is nice.
I really can't believe that my last infusion is coming up. We are going to go on a beach vacation to celebrate, and we're even taking family pictures. I used to hate pictures of myself just because I didn't look like my normal self. I'm starting to see the old Bonnie coming through in the pictures and really so thankful to have been given the opportunity to take TEPEZZA.

I just completed my eighth and final infusion of TEPEZZA. I cannot believe I'm done and how fast it went. I can definitely tell a huge difference in where I started versus where I am now. I feel like I'm looking more and more like myself every single day, which is an amazing feeling. This go-aound, I didn't have a ton of side effects, besides an upset stomach, which is pretty usual.
I thought this was interesting. I'm usually so fatigued and tired after the treatment, and then that following day, but this time I actually had a lot of energy and couldn't sleep at night. I don't know if that was just excitement from being done, but I thought that was really interesting. Now that my infusions are done, my doctor wanted me to wait three months.
Then I have an appointment in October to see where I stand. If any additional eyelid-lowering surgeries will be required, or anything additional like that. I am so thankful for this opportunity and the new advances in science and medicine to be able to take TEPEZZA, just really thankful. I will keep you guys updated on any more results I see.

Individual results may vary.

TEPEZZA is a prescription medicine used to treat Thyroid Eye Disease (TED), no matter if you’ve had TED for months or years.
